The Bran Muffins
1998 (released 2025)
Machine Cake Flotilla is a project by John Henry and Christo Harris (aka The Bran Muffins), which began sometime around 1990 and was imagined as a full-length film and accompanying soundtrack.
Filming took place on-and-off and the soundtrack came together in fits and starts. The soundtrack was completed around 1998, but only a few segments of film were completed before the universe swept
us under its battering waves and the project became lost in the maelstrom. Decades later, Christo, infused by humble valor, endeavored to resurrect the dusty tapes and remaster them for an overdue release in 2025.
Several tracks are soundscapes overlain with John Henry poems, while others were experimental studies on the film's enigmatic themes, with a few of our individual compositions subjected to our collective
anesthesia and thrown in for good measure - all swirling around the the unsuspecting guests of a rather unconventional tea party. While the actual themes of the Flotilla are unclear, many scholars
have hypothesized that it really doesn't make any difference anyway. So, join us now on a journey through gardens, parlours, harbours and tea parties on the odyssey that is: Machine Cake Flotilla.
All tracks written and performed by John Henry and Christo Harris, with additional instruments, vocals, and tea by Janeen Whitney. Produced by Christo Harris.
